Digital Transformation: Don’t Forget the Edge of Your Network
IoT. Cyber security. Cloud apps. Live video. Big Data. Mobile. Everywhere you look, digital transformation is impacting the way enterprises are doing business.
However, for many enterprises digital transformation is further down road than in the rear view mirror. According to TechRepublic, barriers to digital transformation include cultural issues like an inability to experiment quickly, risk-averse leadership or business silos preventing business lines from connecting; resource issues like a lack of skills or budget; and technical issues like legacy systems that can’t keep pace with the needs of digital.
Cultures can adapt, skills can be hired, and budgets can be increased. Legacy hardware? That’s a tougher barrier to overcome. Global IT spending is projected to be $3.7 trillion in 2018; extrapolate that figure backwards over the past 10-15 years and it’s not an exaggeration to say that most enterprises are sitting on IT investments valued in the hundreds of millions or even billions.
